Description

There are parts where a common cream simply doesn't reach: hands that crack in winter, rough elbows, and heels that split.

This concentrated balm is made for those rescues. As it contains no water, it melts with the skin's warmth and forms a protective layer that continues to work where the skin is most damaged, while the tallow replenishes what was lost. Lavender and mint give it a soft herbal scent and a fresh sensation upon application.

How to use

Warm a small amount between your fingers and massage into the area until absorbed. Repeat as often as needed throughout the day.

  • Hands: apply after each wash, or a generous layer at night.
  • Elbows, knees, and heels: apply after bathing, while skin is still warm.
  • Irritated or itchy areas: apply a thin layer, without rubbing.

Ingredients

89% pasture-raised purified beef tallow, 6% arrowroot powder, 5% tapioca starch, 0.5% lavender essential oil, 0.5% peppermint essential oil.

That is the whole formula. Since it contains no water, the balm is self-preserving.

Before buying

How is it different from the facial balm?

The facial balm is lighter, designed for use on the face at night. The restorative balm is more concentrated in tallow and has a refreshing touch of mint: it's made for rough hands, feet, and elbows. If you're only taking one in your backpack, this is it.

Is it for eczema or dermatitis?

Many people with atopic skin look for balms like this, without perfume or preservatives, and the layer it forms helps the skin retain moisture. It may not be a remedy: if you have an active flare-up, consult your dermatologist first.

Can I use it on babies?

We prefer not to: it contains lavender and peppermint essential oils, and a baby's skin is too delicate for that. For baby's bath, our zinc oxide soap is the mildest in the line.

Does it leave hands greasy?

For the first few minutes, you'll feel a protective film—this is what helps it withstand washes. Apply a small amount: with a thin layer, the sensation quickly disappears, but the protection remains.

What does it smell like?

Lavender with a hint of mint: a soft herbal scent that comes from the essential oils in the formula and fades after a few minutes.
